I have an 8 year old daughter and she sucks her thumb. I've just found out today that her teacher and her PE coach have been bothering her about it.
I recently had a conference with the teacher, and she brought up the thumb sucking. I told her that I'm not concerned about it and neither is our dentist at this point. I thought that would be the end of it, but she says her teacher keeps telling her to stop. The PE coach has been doing the same thing. I suggested that maybe she needs to take her thumb out of her mouth to participate in PE, but she says it happens when they line up to leave the gym.
I am thinking of contacting the assistant principal and telling her I want the teachers to stop bugging DD about sucking her thumb, since frankly I think it's none of their business, and it is upsetting to DD. She sucks it a lot less than she used to, and eventually she'll stop on her own.
I'm just wondering if I'm over reacting, but even random strangers seem to see fit to come up and tell us to make her stop sucking her thumb, and I am tired of it.
