Dye wise I would say that lugana dyes more dreamily and the dye intermingles more... as when the dye touches a linen or a linen opal the edges of the dye molacules catch the rough natural edges of the linen fibres quicker making it dye brighter and deeper with slightly more definitions to the edges of the colour variation in the fabric.

I am sorry for the somewhat indescript explanation but I tend to think in images and it can make things hard to describe when in the one off situations when I am trying to talking seriously!
