Does anyone have any projects (Mira related, here) they want to have on the wall by Christmas? If so, it's time to get crackin'! Anyone have any WIP they want to show off, so we can give you the encouragement you need to get them done in time?! The 2007 Christmas tree kit that Lisa in WA has been working on is starting to call my name... it might be on this month's agenda, after all! Let's here from everyone else!! Posts: 155 07/02/09 9:07 AM	I know that kind of feeling, Vanessa...and it can be devastating Sarah, hopefully I won't need Christmas music to feel the charm of the season...I love the colours so much I could stitch Christmas forever. Anyway I wouldn't wish to leave other projects behind so I try and rotate with different things. At the moment I have a Dimensions stocking on the go. It was meant for my father since he loved it the moment I got the kit. I started it straightaway but it was mid-October and a month or so later I realised I would never have it done for Christmas 2008. Now it's lying there as my father died last April and I'll never give to him again...so you see, that's why I'm a bit put off in having it done on time this year... I love all things Disney and all things Christmas (yet, my job conspires to keep me from combining the two, curseit!)... and I love that I live so close to Bronner's (www.bronners.com - becareful, it might play midi files!). I just ordered another Lizzie*Kate Christmas kit. Vanessa, that sounds like a new form of a Murphy's Law, doesn't it?! So my mom passed away 2 years after I started it (which made me feel bad anyways), but it languished in my closet for another 3 before I just recently pulled it out and finished it. Sarah - I swear my last name should be Murphy............. Posts: 638 07/02/09 1:40 PM	Nothing screaming Christmas as I just completed the WWS and have the framed (recent) Christmas Elegance hanging in my office! So, I think that finishes my Christmas stuff for awhile. I don't stitch Christmas presents either. People beg for stuff for Christmas and promise to get them framed but never do. I always tell them framing is expensive and if they don't frame it they won't enjoy it. I don't do small designs for pillows and stuff. Maybe that makes me werid...LOL!!! Or, do other folks feel the same way?! I do plan on getting 2 more Miras framed this fall but not for Christmas. Myrna

Posts: 840 07/02/09 10:14 PM Hey you with the hair Moderator	Yeah, I very rarely give handmade gifts because they're just not appreciated... and people don't understand the cost of getting things framed! I tell them it's a huge burden if I give them something and expect them to frame it and I can't afford it! Knitted projects are touch and go. I think my MIL is the only person (beyond DH!) who likes things that I knit. My SIL got a knitted baby cap for her newborn. She looked at it, said indifferently "that's nice," and tossed it aside. (However, she did express interest in the recent letter K. Else, I wouldn't bother) And, yeah, most of the Christmas stuff in this forum are huuuuuuuuuge projects! Myrna, I loved watching your WWS progress and your Christmas Elegance finish, the both made me dream of picking up the neddle and begin stitching straightaway. as for stitched Xmas presents, I wouldn't really bother....they're not usually appreciated what they're worth and/or the effort put through. People usually expect an item they can use not just something to hang on the wall and look at....besides, should I get them framed and then given you might never know whether they have enough room on their walls...or so my mother keeps telling me each time I say I'd like to stitch something (even small) for someone. So I simply keep all stitching for myself and should anyone dream over my work....well, I'm afraid I don't have much time to stitch for myself, let alone for others.... Posts: 219 07/10/09 11:10 AM	I finished Holly a few weeks ago so that is the extent of my actual Christmas themed stitching. That being said I am working on 2 stitchy gifts for my mom and dad....figured I would start them in the whole Christmas in July thing. This way I won't be totally crunched for time. They both have birthdays, days before Christmas...so they might actually get them for their birthdays. (They are 2 Dimensions cats I am going to do as stand-ups...the chart isn't in front of me right this second). I don't give stitchy gifts either to anyone else. I want to....but I know people don't appreciate it. Like I wanted to do a birth announcement for my niece (My 1st time being an aunt)...but since my mother didn't even hear a thank you from the Mom (my SIL) for a baby quilt she made for my niece....I figure why bother. (They are my BIL and SIL...so not my silblings, but my DH's) So I will only stitch for my parents. People that are not stitchers, or involved in a very involved craft (like quilting) have no idea of the time, and expenses involved. Posts: 14 07/21/09 8:46 AM	I've just started a Christmas project, it's for a friend who does a lot of dressmaking and knitting and so appreciates the time craft activities take. It's not a Mira, it's a fairly traditional image of the Madonna, Child and the Sacred Heart (not really my sort of thing, if I'm honest, but she's into that whole kitsch religious iconography thing and is a practising Catholic). I'm lucky that I know someone who can make frames for me, so it won't be too expensive. I think she and my mum are the only people who I make things for as they know what the effort is. I don't frame everything I do (a lot of it is in a drawer) but I'd rather keep it in a drawer for myself to look at then give to someone who wouldn't appreciate it. Like others here, I've done birth samplers, but they've not really been appreciated (or more, I don't think the recipients really appreciate how much work and effort it is and I end up resenting them for not being more grateful! ) WIP: The Kiss (Mira) - Nearly Done! Madonna & Child (Lenarte) - Just started deadline Christmas 09 London 1616 (Eva Rosenstand) - off rotation replaced by Madonna and Child Flower Fairy, the Cowslip Fairy (DMC) - small project for when I need a break!
