Posts: 1572 05/19/09 6:45 PM Fabric Stash Crack Monkey, And Organization Oracle	I'm in for this one and its foolish and I know it and I don't care! Ladies I too have Knotgarden all kitted up! I did get the suggested fabric and may go with that. I have 5 Chat wips, maybe we should try and get something going to help us finish the ones we have started, but AFTER this Fairy Garden one. I cannot handle too many of them at one time. Posts: 219 05/20/09 4:19 AM	The chart cost is a little high for me as well. I have bought Mermaids Box, and have been gathering supplies for that one, just trying to figure out fabric. And I bought Japanese garden when that got released-as I am an anything Japanese nut. I can only imagine what charts cost for anyone outside the States. I admire quite a few of them, but the cost keeps me from "stockpiling" them as well. I also prefer real paper charts rather than the idea of online stuff. (I have had a computer crash before.) I might spring for the new desert one when that gets released, because I would want to start that one sooner than later, but still not sure. (If it was a paper chart it would be in my cart somewhere in a minute-though) I also think I would feel pressure to try and keep up with the online releases (self-imposed I know) This is also the reason I don't stockpile all the Long Dogs I want as well-the price.

Posts: 279 05/20/09 8:43 AM The Stitching Professor	Oh, Dammit. Excuse my language, ladies, but that's my honest to goodness out loud response after I saw it with 3 fairies on the black. God she knows how to rope us in, doesn't she? Here is the thing: if those fairies are over 1, forget about it, I can't deal with over 1. But if most of the whole piece is over 2 with only a tiny bit over one, I am now leaning towards this piece. I wonder if the outer greyish part is a stitched area too, or if the stitched area ends with the aquamarine border--see what I mean? If the grey is all stitched I hope it's some kind of satiny stitch that goes fast, otherwise that alone would take a ton of time to fill in with little x's! I just think those fairies make the piece--such adorable little dresses! It's like little tiny Nora Corbett flower fairies jumped onto a Chatelaine mandala. Wow. Susan

Posts: 141 05/20/09 8:55 AM Moderator	My sentiments exactly, Susan. #(@& but that woman has my number. <sigh> From what I read....in the first fairy (rose?) in the upper right, only the roses in her hair are over one. Now the other fairies are bluebell and wisteria with fern to go in the last corner. So, definatly along the lines of the Nora's flower fairies. FWIW...I think the greyish part is a "frame" not part of the piece. I think it ends at the aquamarine border. I know what I want for my birthday now.... Posts: 73 05/20/09 8:58 AM	Susan, the actual design ends at the aquamarine stitching outside the silver filagree butterflies in the corners, the more solid silver represents a frame (at least that's how it's worked in the past). I believe the fairies are going to be over-2, except for some over-1 flowers in their hair. I'd probably do the skin over-1 just because I like that look. Of course, while I really like the fairies, I'm probably going to go with the floral medallions that she's offering as an option because I like flowers more than fairies and Martina does such a good job with flowers. Posts: 174 05/20/09 10:15 AM	Well I too am sunk! I was going to get Cuba, Holland and Caribean as momentoes of our holiday trips however now I will put them on backburner for this one! I am sure it will have a lot of bling to save up for. It comes out in september and my birthday is in November and then of course we have christmas as well. My family has been very supportive of my "hobbie/obsession" and now have no problems as to what to buy me. I am in the progress of finishing up my first Chat Mandala - alhambra- and cant tell you how much I am enjoying it. It is actually precisly because of the repetition! I find that as I go along I now can anticipate what is coming and it puts me in a rhythm so to speak and I find it extremely relaxing! I have Hawaii kitted up except for one thread that is on backorder and then I also have Persian Gardens, Watergarden and alpine seasons that I bought the charts of. Now I much prefer the online option as that way I can enlarge each section as I stitch along which makes it soooo much easier to read the charts. I too like the fact of the coloured chart option. Alhambra, Alpine season and watergarden I bought as a chart pack at my LNS however they are then of course just in the black and white chart. No I find the online version is much easier to work with. I do not do it as an online class and in fact bought both hawai and Persian from her directly on the YUKU forum. She has a list of finished projects (upon request) that are not published yet that you can buy directly as a download. Just as a comment to those worried about computer crashes, you can store a copy on your computer and then burn one on a disk for safekeeping as well. I also have started a binder for my download ones. I print of a hard copy and keep them in plastic covers in the binder "just in case" Too keep motivated, when I find that I am stuck in a rut I will take on a smaller project in between just to do something totally different - One of Noras letters for example or one of her Pixies - and then go back to my chat! I work full time but hope to retire soon so I should have lots more time to stitch, stitch stitch!!!! Marg

But lo and behold I checked the yuku group and saw the fairy design and it is just like I never left! My stats are that I have 1 Chat completely finished (Evening in the Park), and Alhambra done except for the center beaded area. Then 2 WIPs (egyptian and alpine). I long ago declared cross-stitch as my totally guilt-free hobby and as long as I can round up the money, I can start as many projects as I want. So....I have a few months to save up the money, but I'm definitely doing this one -- silks and all. Can't wait to narrow down the fabric choice. The black is interesting, but I envision this as a totally girly design with lots of pastels and sparklies!! Johanna in Ohio My finished projects

I think St Petersburg was the last one I was interested in... this is sooo different. Like a lot of you all I have 3 Chatelaines started and haven't worked on one of them for well over a year. I really must finish them before considering starting another. Zeb - I understand what you mean. For me it's not peer pressure but I love what I see and when I stitch something I want it to look like the model. Also in NZ it's hard to substitute something you can't see in person to make a good decision. Generally the cost of supplies is on par across the board but Chatelaine's are expensive and I was really disappointed in the cost of the silks for the new mermaid sampler by Just Nan. Posts: 229 05/20/09 3:30 PM	Ditto on some of the pieces I admire Lisa And you're right, it's difficult here in NZ getting all the supplies (or ANY of them, as I have discovered with some fabric I am after.) Wasn't too pleased about this Just Nan sampler either but I thought "Well, you love mermaids, you love Just Nan, do it girl." I understand why some people are dropping the sampler in favour of the Chatelaine, both are expensive, so unless you're uber rich, you've GOT to choose! I've seen quite a few lovely Chatelaines over the years, but every single one of them calls for heaps of specialty stuff, and I just can't warrant the cost of getting them all when a Chatelaine has yet to call out my name to me! Lets not talk about how horrible our dollar is against the greenback and euro! Just Nan on the other hand, most of her designs sing to me LOL!
