Posts: 1572 01/29/09 7:30 PM Fabric Stash Crack Monkey, And Organization Oracle	Tags : None keep an eye on the puppy? Here is our new little guy, we have had him for just over a week now. What a joy and delight he is! He is a Collie (smooth blue merle). He was born on dh's birthday Dec. 1st. I am finding it very difficult to stitch. It is like having a two year old running around the house with a bomb strapped to them. You have to keep your eye on him ALL THE TIME! Busy Busy Busy!!!!!!! Oh but did I mention how sweet too? This is our first collie so we are learning as we go. WOW what a smart breed too! Posts: 279 01/29/09 7:39 PM The Stitching Professor	OMG he is adorable!!! I have no advice for you--never had a dog before, only cats, and I imagine they are a lot of work but so so cute. I guess I would be really careful about what you leave lying around. One of our cats has a habit of messing with DMC--all she has to do is see it in a plastic bag and she opens the bag and pulls all of it out and sometimes sucks on it if she can get to it before I find her! Posts: 297 01/29/09 9:16 PM	He's absolutely adorable, and to answer your question, you don't stitch and watch him at the same time. We got a miniature schnauzer pup last May, and it was several months before I could reliably keep her out and about AND try to stitch. There are just too many interesting (and taboo) things to explore! As for the "scenic route", let's just say we've discovered some of my orts in interesting places in the backyard. Good luck! Posts: 5229 01/29/09 11:10 PM Magical Admin	I know he's a dog, and Burt is a kitty (see the avatar for his pic).... BUT Burt was a TERROR. I thought I'd never be able to stitch EVER again. I found that I could stitch if I wore him out with toys or whatever first! And I stitched when he was sleeping. Of course - then that cut into my sleeping time (you couldn't sleep if he wasn't - it was like having a baby!)..... oh, and by the way - I showed the pics of your puppy to my boyfriend who just thinks your puppy is the cutest on the planet!! As for stitching with him around, keep all of your stuff picked up so he can't try to chew on any of it. Swallowing thread can be baaad on the innards. You probably won't get as much stitching in for a while, at least during his waking hours. I'd suggest playing with him until he tires himself and then stitching when he konks out. Good luck! Erin A. I find the best time to stitch is when he has settled for a little nap and of course, the first command he has to learn is LEAVE ! Enjoy you puppy. Turn your back for one minute and they are on the table, in the garbage, chewing on clothes, etc. It doesn't help that they are as tall as my dinning room table and lay their heads right on it looking for things to eat. Posts: 59 01/30/09 9:29 AM	How sweet! When we got our Grace Kelly, I felt like a new mom again. She is almost 2 now and is still like a toddler. I am constantly picking up toys! What worked for me was to drop everything and stitch whenever the baby had a nap. Not a lot of stitching time, but worth it! Alice

Posts: 9 01/30/09 10:51 AM	Sooz - pick up a couple of baby gates and gate him into the room that you are in. That way he is within your sites at all times - you might have to rearrange your furniture a bit. I have lots of babies through my house - kittens and puppies of all ages from the shelter - and I am still able to accomplish a lot stitching, quilting and sewing. Generally if I get settled down, then everyone else settles too. Get some high-value chews that he only gets when you want him to settle down. If I can help anymore, let me know. BTW, he is georgeous. And be careful - Coliies are really smart, like Boxers. Sometimes they are too smart for their own good. Posts: 58 01/30/09 3:54 PM	I have an 11 year old Sheltie (partially blue merle). They are very smart & I had him house trained in a week after getting him. They do want to be close to you, I think that if you give him something to play with you just have to pay attention to if he tries to leave the room. But at this age I was always worn out before Mischief was. (Everyone has giving some really good advice.) Do you have a crate for him. My dogs love their crates the door is left open a lot & it's like their own little bedroom now. Melinda Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
